Wheel flange lubrication

The wheel flange lubrication is to lubricate friction points from railway vehicles between the wheel and the rail. The wheel flange lubrication supplies the wheels via a specific centralised lubrication system mainly during outward and inward curves.

The curve sensor transmit a corresponding signal for left or right curves to the control panel of the wheel flange lubrication system.

The wheel flange is about 1,5  inches high vertical bead, which is located at the center of the rail  directed toward the side of the wheels of modern rail vehicles. With the help of the flange of the rail vehicle, the track is defined, within which the railway vehicle can move in the transverse direction.

Generally, a wheel flange lubrication system consists of a lubricant reservoir, a lubricant filter (if required) and the actual spray nozzle which sprays the lubricant with the aid of compressed air to the wheel flange.

The spray intervals are determined by controlling and timing the compressed air, which can be indefinitely continued after a short pause.

The precise sprayed lubricant quantity, the variable spray-frequency and the adjustment of the spray jet are the components for ideal of wheel flange lubrication.

For lubrication of tooth flanks of large, low speed and open gear drive, a wheel flange lubrication is also ideal.

In short: The  advantages of a wheel flange lubrication:

  • Very little Lubricant quantity is need and the application is extreme precise.
  • Wear reduction on wheel and rail, as well as energy savings by friction reduction and a considerable decrease of noise
  • Reduction of maintenance time of the parts being lubricated
  • Reduction of maintenance costs (machines and men power)
  • Less lubricant consumption through exact dosage this contribute also to environmental protection.
