The wheel flange lubrication is designed to lubricate friction points between the wheel and the rail of railway vehicles. The wheel flange lubricationsystem supplies lubricant to the wheels via a specific centralized lubrication system, mainly during outward and inward curves.
The curve sensor transmits a corresponding signal for left or right curves to the control panel of the wheel flange lubrication system.
The wheel flange is an approximately 1.5-inch high vertical bead, which is located on the center of the rail and directed toward the side of the wheels of modern rail vehicles. With the help of the wheel flange of the rail vehicle, the track is defined, within which the railway vehicle can move in the transverse direction.
Generally, a wheel flange lubrication system consists of a lubricant reservoir,
a lubricant filter (if required) and the actual spray nozzle which sprays the
lubricant with the aid of compressed air to the wheel flange.
The spray intervals are determined by controlling and timing the compressed air, which can be continued idefinitely after a short pause.
The precise quantity of sprayed lubricant, the variable spray frequency and the
adjustment of the spray jet are essential components for ideal wheel flange
lubrication.
For lubrication ofthe tooth flanks of large, low-speed, open gear drives, wheel flange lubrication is also ideal.
